Life Resolutions Carlton
It’s good to talk!
Sometimes that is all that is required.
A skilled listener who doesn’t get caught in the content (as those close to us often do) will make it easy to say what needs to come out and be said.
This provides clarity, relief and insight that is not otherwise available. This clarity can then provide the basis for your next step.
At the end of the first session people frequently say,
“That was quick!” or
“It feels good just to have said all that!”
Finding the words to say it, and being able to say it, in the presence of another, are major parts of the therapeutic process.
For people new to counselling and psychotherapy, it is important to know that the effectiveness of such a venture depends heavily on the “Therapeutic Relationship”. This is more important than the particular methodology used.
So it is important that you, as the client, engage with someone that suits you. Further, as you go through different stages, different styles may be required, so the therapist may need to change and adapt to your progress or it may be better to see someone else.
The important thing though, is to get started and draw your own conclusions from there!
